Lloyd’s Tour of Britain to start in Lincolnshire in major boost for physical activity!

Lloyd’s Tour of Britain to start in Lincolnshire in major boost for physical activity!

Lincolnshire will take centre stage in September 2026 as it hosts the opening two stages of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men – marking a significant opportunity to drive physical activity, inspire communities, and showcase the county on a national and international platform.

The prestigious UCI ProSeries race will begin on Wednesday 2 September 2026 with a start and finish in Lincoln, before moving to a Boston to Skegness route on Thursday 3 September – bringing elite cycling to multiple communities across the county for the very first time in this format.

A platform for participation and place-making

As one of the UK’s largest free-to-attend sporting events, the Lloyds Tour of Britain offers far more than elite competition. It brings significant opportunities for local partners to connect communities with physical activity, active travel, and healthier lifestyles.

With Lincoln hosting its first national Tour stage in over 30 years, and Boston and Skegness making their debuts on the modern Tour route, the event represents a powerful moment to engage residents and visitors alike – linking sport, place, and wellbeing.

The wider event has already demonstrated its value. Research from British Cycling shows the 2025 Tour delivered a £62.3 million cumulative economic impact across host regions, alongside measurable social benefits for communities.

Strengthening partnerships across Lincolnshire

The successful bid to host stages one and two reflects strong partnership working between local authorities and British Cycling, with a shared ambition to grow cycling participation and strengthen tourism and economic outcomes across the region.

For Active Lincolnshire and partners, the event provides a catalyst to build long-term engagement programmes – ensuring the excitement of the race translates into sustained behaviour change.

Inspiring more people to move

Emma Tatlow, CEO of Active Lincolnshire, highlighted the transformational potential of the event:

“We’re absolutely delighted that Lincolnshire will host two stages of the Lloyds Tour of Britain. This is a fantastic opportunity not only to showcase our county, but to inspire more people to get active. At Active Lincolnshire, we’re committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from being physically active – whether that’s access, confidence or inequality, and this event gives us a powerful platform to work with partners to reach communities across the county. We hope it will spark lasting change, helping more people discover the benefits of movement for their health and wellbeing.”

Turning momentum into legacy

With global attention on Lincolnshire and thousands expected to line the routes, the focus now turns to maximising the opportunity. From community activation to local engagement programmes, there is a clear opportunity to:

  • Encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to try cycling and other forms of physical activity
  • Showcase accessible opportunities to be active across the county
  • Strengthen collaboration between sport, health, and community sectors
  • Create a lasting legacy beyond race day

Further details on routes and community engagement opportunities will follow in the coming weeks.

Active Lincolnshire will continue to work with partners to ensure the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2026 leaves a lasting impact – supporting more people, in more places, to move more and live well.
