Inaugural Yarborough parkrun a great success

Inaugural Yarborough parkrun a great success

A new parkrun for Lincoln was launched at the weekend (on Saturday 4th February) in the grounds of Yarborough Leisure Centre. Parkrun is a free event where you can jog, run, walk, wheel and take part as a family and provides a great way to start people on the pathway of being more physically active. The first event in this new weekly run in the North of Lincoln, was a great success, with seasoned parkrunners and people new to running alike joining in at the event.

Active Lincolnshire distributed a grant of £5000 from Sport England's Together Fund to Active Nation set up the new parkrun in the north of Lincoln. The funding has been used to cover the £4,000 parkrun franchise registration that includes everything you need to run a parkrun including a defibrillator. Additional money will support the purchase of equipment, first aid training for volunteers and marketing in the local community.

Yarborough Leisure Centre is situated in an area within the top 10% most deprived IMD decile. This new parkrun will enable people and families from lower income groups in the local area to participate in parkrun without having transport costs to get there. The route is also fully accessible to wheelchair users as it takes place on the facility's cycling track.

The Yarborough parkrun is the 9th parkrun in Lincolnshire, with others taking place at: Cleethorpes, Gainsborough, Market Rasen, Doddington Hall, Boultham Park, Lincoln, Belton House, Boston and Snowden Field, Crowland. You can find more details about the parkruns and Junior parkruns in Lincolnshire on the Let's Move Lincolnshire website.

The Together Fund exists to help to reduce the negative impact of coronavirus and support community groups and clubs working with our target audiences - whose activity levels have been most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic - to grow and enable more people to be more active. Active Lincolnshire is distributing the Together Fund in Lincolnshire on behalf of Sport England. Find out more about the Together Fund and other successful programmes here.
