Skills Fund

Helping to upskill those working in sport & physical activity in East Lindsey and South Holland.

The Skills Fund supported individuals living or working in East Lindsey, South Holland and Boston to access learning opportunities. The fund was distributed by Active Lincolnshire between 2024 - 25, helping open doors for local people to gain skills and qualifications in sport, physical activity, and community leadership.

From individuals taking their first steps towards a career in sport and physical activity, and volunteers who wanted to increase their knowledge to further support the people they work with, to seasoned professional wanting to enhance existing coaching expertise, this initiative equipped individuals with the necessary skills to promote and deliver physical activity within their communities.

The project was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF) for Southeast Lincolnshire.

The skills fund has helped open doors for local people to gain skills and qualifications in sport, physical activity, and community leadership. It has allowed individuals to start or progress careers in the physical activity sector, with the added benefit of improving health and wellbeing across our communities.

"The Skills Fund has been absolutely fantastic. This initiative has enabled me to enrol onto an SAQ course—a qualification I have been eager to pursue for some time. This course will not only enhance my professional development but also improve my coaching skills. It’s an invaluable opportunity that is helped me achieve a career goal and personal ambitions." - Skills Fund learner

Crucially, the funding is also supporting career development and business sustainability, particularly among women and those who are unemployed or self-employed. From enabling instructors to diversify their class offerings to helping individuals secure part-time roles or transition into new careers, the programme is helping build a more resilient and skilled local workforce within the physical activity sector.
