We have collated some ideas and inspiration to help you design your involvement with the Join in the Movement 2022 campaign.

Join in the Movement

There are many ways in which you and your organisation, school, club, and community can get involved and Join in the Movement. From hosting your own sports games to volunteering and becoming a community champion, here are a few ideas to support this countywide campaign.

  • Activity, leisure, sport & club providers

    Ideas for: Activity, leisure, sport & club providers

    Host a Taster Session

    Host taster session/s for your sport or activity or one of the Commonwealth Games 2022 sports. Here’s a list to give you some inspiration.

    Showcase Days

    Promote your leisure facility and sports clubs by showcasing your sport in local towns and villages, invite residents to come along for free; provide activities in community spaces. Link up with your local council/town or parish council to explore ideas.

    Commonwealth Champions

    Invite one of Lincolnshire’s Commonwealth Champions (past or present) to visit your club or venue and take part in your activity or give a talk about their Commonwealth experience.

    Get your school and students inspired by Commonwealth 2022 by incorporating engagement and learning opportunities.

    School Assembly

    Add in a touch of Commonwealth into your school assembly schedule throughout 2022. Students can learn about what the Commonwealth is, the sports and activities involved, and explore the countries involved.

    Commonwealth in the Curriculum

    A set of Commonwealth Games inspired PE lessons, have a go at one of the 26 sports to try out something new with your students.

    Incorporate the learning of Commonwealth into a history lesson, learn to say 'hello' in each language and get creative with a collaborative arts lesson, or explore different music from around the world.

    Could your school cook up a tasty and healthy recipe from the Commonwealth?

    My Join in the Movement "Commonwealth 2022” Passport

    To document your school students' Commonwealth learning journey, create a passport for them to collect stamps on, learning about each country’s culture and traditions.

    You could even leave space for them to collect additional external stamps as they visit and participate in other Join in the Movement activities from our partners across the county.

  • Community groups

    Ideas for: Community groups

    Partner up with another community group and host an evening for your local communities to help inclusively bring everyone together across the county.

    Your event could be themed on food from around the world, music and dance, literature, culture, or, of course, sport and physical activity.

    Involve your workplace and team members in the Let’s Move with Commonwealth 2022 campaign:

    Sponsoring opportunities to fund charities and community groups taking part in the campaign.

    Take your team to one of the Let’s Move with Commonwealth 2022 events hosted by community groups and cultural organisations for a team-building day. Maybe you could volunteer at one of the community groups events?

    Workplace Sport Day

    Could you team up with other companies across Lincolnshire and go head-to-head competing for that “Commonwealth Games” trophy?

    Encourage Staff Volunteering Days

    Support your staff in taking time out to volunteer in their local community.

    Link with the Commonwealth

    Research and connect with a business from one of the 56 Commonwealth countries.

  • Heritage, cultural & arts organisations

    Ideas for: Heritage, Cultural & Arts Organisations

    An opportunity for heritage, cultural and arts organisations to connect with and form a partnership with sports and physical activity clubs from across Lincolnshire.

    On the Streets
    • Arts and Crafts Fairs, with technique demonstrations and have-a-go sessions
    • Street Food Markets, with food from around the world
    • Street Art
    • Flash mobs and dancing in public spaces
    Exhibitions, Talks & Tours

    Exhibit and showcase any Commonwealth culture within your heritage or cultural venue. Invite Lincolnshire’s Commonwealth Champions to talk or other members of the Commonwealth community to showcase their culture.

    Host a cultural festival

    Showcasing food, drink, music, dance, sport and heritage from around the world at a cultural festival. Inviting a true representation of Lincolnshire’s diverse culture to be showcased at the event and celebrate your inclusive and accessible festival with the community and visitors.

  • Cities, towns and villages

    Ideas for: Cities, towns and villages

    The commonwealth campaign could provide a great opportunity for you to animate the streets and public spaces, and provide entertainment and engagement opportunities throughout your place.

    'Have a go' activities

    Bring temporary have a go sports into your town or village (such as skateboard ramps, climbing wall etc.)

    Host a health walk

    Introduce health walks, social walks or walking events to your event programme social walks. You may already have an existing trail or could develop a new heritage trail that tells the local connections to Commonwealth.

    Theme your upcoming events

    Theme your events programme around the Commonwealth - we'll be sharing the 'Let's Move with Commonwealth' branding soon which you can use to link your events to the campaign.

    Flash mob dancing

    Host a flash mob dance show to get everyone moving on your high street and add to your visitors' experience.

    Use your Green Spaces

    Consider how you can use your green spaces for people to get active:

    • Saturday morning yoga for shoppers
    • Create a community garden
    • Outdoors aerobics sessions
    • Morning meditation and mindfulness sessions
