Active Lincolnshire team takes on Curly’s Athletes Foundation 9-5K

Active Lincolnshire team takes on Curly’s Athletes Foundation 9-5K

This week, three members of the Active Lincolnshire team swapped their desks for running shoes and headed to Market Rasen Racecourse for the Curly's Athletes Foundation 9 to 5K.

Designed to encourage workplace teams to get active together, the event brought colleagues from across Lincolnshire together for an evening of physical activity and friendly competition. With a fantastic atmosphere and runners of all abilities taking part, it was a brilliant example of how local events can bring people together through being active.

The course started with a shorter lap before moving onto two larger loops around the racecourse. While the route itself was enjoyable despite the wind, there was one final challenge waiting for runners who thought they were almost done. Just before the finish came a dirt-track incline, before a final push down through the Tattersalls Enclosure and across the finish line.

Thankfully, the reward at the end made it all worthwhile, with runners receiving a medal, a cup of water and a well-earned slice of cake.

There was even more to celebrate for the Active Lincolnshire team, with two colleagues finishing first in their respective age-group categories.

A special mention should also go to the team at Curly's Athletes Foundation for their sustainability efforts. Water was served in paper cups and the trophies were made from wood, demonstrating how events can make environmentally conscious choices without compromising on participant experience.

Most of all, the evening was a reminder that being active doesn't always have to be about achieving personal bests. Taking part, challenging yourself and enjoying the experience alongside others is what matters most.

And as a nice bonus, the event happened to take place on National Fitness Day too.

Feeling inspired to get active? The route used for Curly's 9 to 5K is also home to the weekly Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun, a free, friendly 5k that takes place every Saturday morning and welcomes walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers alike.

A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers and supporters who made the evening such a success, and congratulations to everyone who took part. We can't wait to see what challenge comes next!
