Active Lincolnshire Team pledge to collect litter during the Great British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, is set to take place from 21 March to 6 April 2025. Staff from Active Lincolnshire will be joining millions of Litter Heros across the UK to pledge to collect litter in our local area.
We'll be taking part in a lunchtime litter picking event during the Great British Spring Clean campaign. Since last summer we have organised regular staff litter picks around the trading estate area where we're based. During this time we've collected 24 full bags of litter.

The idea was originally initiated by student Kouki Kobayashi who did a work placement with us last year. The regular events support our commitment to the environment, but they are also a fantastic opportunity to get out of the office, get some fresh air and boost our step count for the day. The monthly activity also provides an opportunity to chat with colleagues both from our own team and also from Nicholsons Accountants and Simons Design, who we share our office building with.
"Getting outdoors during a litter pick is a great way to clear your head, enjoy some fresh air and get your steps up for the day. It's also a good feeling to know that you're taking litter out of the environment and making your local area cleaner".

Top tips to set up a Litter Pick
- Choose a location – make sure you have permission to litter pick there.
- Confirm where to dispose of the rubbish you collect. If you think your group will pick up a large amount of litter you could contact your local authority to arrange for them to collect it.
- Consider recycling – is it possible to separate glass, recyclable plastic and aluminum cans for recycling?
- Prepare your litter picking equipment (you will need plastic bags, litter grabbers, hoops (for holding the bags open) make litter picking a lot easier and gloves. Your local authority might be able to provide you with equipment. If you are litter picking near a road, a high visibility vest will help keep you safe. Sturdy shoes will protect your feet.
- Coordinate the date and time – and decide what is happening if the weather if bad.
- Confirm the potential risks of the event – carry out a risk assessment and make sure people are aware of potential hazards.
