Boston Bluetits - The Coldwater Swimming Club with a Warm Welcome

The Boston Bluetits, open water swimming group welcome everyone, fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity.
The Lincolnshire group was founded by Nicola Housam and Fran Mills, and is as part of the wider Bluetits Chill Swimmers community – a global, volunteer-led movement that encourages people to connect through the joys of outdoor swimming.
With a thriving local membership of over 1,100 swimmers, the group offers multiple swims every day, all year round. From moonlit dips and family-friendly sessions to inflatable floats and exhilarating sea swims, there’s something for everyone, no matter your experience or confidence level.
At the heart of the group is a strong sense of camaraderie and connection. Members often speak of the friendships formed through the swims and the supportive network they’ve found. Cold water swimming has been shown to support mental health, reduce stress, and boost mood – and for many members, it’s become an essential part of their self-care routine.
co-founder Fran Mills commented:
"We have quite a lot of people that have mental health problems who find it just resets you - you can't really think about your problems when your in cold water, its too cold. So there is something completely resetting your mindset. Its addictive, its adventurous, its free and you get to see wildlife. Why wouldn't you cold water swim!"
The swims are always free, with optional summer and winter challenges available for swimmers of all levels. The group creates a non-judgmental, supportive space where every person is valued equally, focusing on building a compassionate and accepting community. It's true to say The Boston Bluetits offer a warm welcome – even if the water isn’t!
The club's friendly and welcoming ethos and commitment to inclusivity was recognised when they were selected as winners of the 'Active Club Award', at the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2024.
