About us

Active Lincolnshire is committed to providing opportunities for everyone in Lincolnshire to be active every day. We work with partners to address inequalities and inactivity, responding to the needs of people and places.

Our Work

As advocates for the positive power that physical activity has on everyone’s lives, we work in partnership to improve understanding, influence change, and tackle the challenge of inactivity.

Become an Active Lincolnshire Trustee

Could your experience help shape a more active Lincolnshire?

You don’t need to have been a Trustee before. You don’t need to be an expert in sport or physical activity. Your experience of your community and everyday life could be exactly what we need.

Active Lincolnshire is looking for people with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives who could help shape our work across Lincolnshire as a member of our Board.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who understand their local communities and some of the things that can make it harder for people to be active.

If you’re curious about becoming a Trustee, but aren’t sure whether it’s for you, we’d love to have an informal conversation.

You can also come along to one of our Board meetings to see what happens, meet some of our Trustees and decide whether it might be something for you. Take a look at the information below about what being a Trustee involves, and see if you'd like to come to an upcoming Board meeting.

There’s no commitment to apply afterwards.

Interested? Start with a conversation. Email admin@activelincolnshire.com for an informal chat or to ask about coming along to a Board meeting.

What is an Active Lincolnshire Trustee?

Trustees are members of our Board who help guide the direction of Active Lincolnshire.

They bring their knowledge, skills, experiences and perspectives to our discussions. They ask questions, challenge our thinking and help make sure the decisions we take support our purpose and the communities we work alongside.

Our work is increasingly focused on working with communities and partners to understand the places where people live, the challenges they experience and what needs to change to help more people lead active, healthy lives.

That means professional expertise is valuable – but lived experience and understanding your community are valuable too.

You don’t need previous Board or Trustee experience to talk to us.

Could this be you?

We want our Board to better reflect the communities we work alongside.

We would particularly like to hear from people who live or work in Boston, East Lindsey or Gainsborough, and from people who understand what life is like in rural, coastal or lower-income communities.

You might have personal experience of some of the things that can make being active more difficult. You might see those challenges through your family, community, volunteering or work.

We would particularly welcome conversations with:

  • people with a disability or long-term health condition;
  • people from minority ethnic communities;
  • people involved in local charities, voluntary organisations or community groups;
  • people who understand some of the challenges facing rural, coastal or lower-income communities;
  • people who know their local community and want its experiences to be heard.

You don’t have to tick every box.

Most importantly, we’re interested in the perspective and experience you could bring to the conversation.

Never been a Trustee before?

That shouldn’t stop you.

We know words such as ‘Board’, ‘Trustee’ and ‘governance’ can make these roles sound as though they are only for people with particular professional backgrounds.

They’re not. A strong Board needs different perspectives around the table.

You might bring professional expertise. You might bring experience from your community. You might understand some of the challenges people face because you’ve experienced them yourself.

All of those perspectives can help us make better decisions.

No previous Trustee or Board experience is required to get in touch and find out more.

Come and see for yourself

Interested, but not ready to make any commitment? Come along to an Active Lincolnshire Board meeting. You can experience a meeting before deciding whether becoming a Trustee might interest you.

Upcoming meeting dates are:

9th December 5:00pm - 7:30pm
17th March 2027 5:00- 7:30pm

Before the meeting
We’ll have an informal conversation with you so you can find out more, ask questions and understand what to expect.

When you arrive
We’ll introduce you to an existing Trustee who can be your Board buddy. They’ll welcome you, explain what’s happening and be there if you have any questions.

During the meeting
You can observe the Board, hear the conversations and see how our Trustees contribute. You don’t need to prepare anything or contribute to the meeting.

Afterwards
It’s completely up to you.

If you’d like to explore becoming a Trustee, we can talk you through what happens next. If you decide it’s not for you, that’s absolutely fine too. There’s no commitment to apply and we’ll cover reasonable travel expenses for attending the meeting.

Want to come along? Tell us you’re interested in attending a Board meeting, by emailing: admin@activelincolnshire.com and we'll let you know all the relevant information.

If you have any accessibility requirements, need support to attend or would like to talk to us beforehand, please include this in your email or ask us when we speak. Reasonable travel expenses can be covered.

What happens if I want to become a Trustee?

If you come to a meeting and think becoming a Trustee might be right for you, we can arrange another conversation. We’ll explain more about the role, what’s involved, the time commitment and the responsibilities that come with being a charity Trustee.

You can then decide whether you’d like to take the next step. There is no expectation that attending a meeting means you have to apply.

Different experiences make a stronger Board

Lincolnshire is a diverse county.

Where people live, their health, income, background and the opportunities available locally can all affect how easy – or difficult – it is to be physically active.

We want the people helping to shape Active Lincolnshire’s future to understand those different experiences. That’s why we’re interested in hearing from people who might never previously have thought about becoming a Trustee. You don’t need to know everything about physical activity.

You don’t need previous Board experience. You don’t need to decide today that you want to become a Trustee.

Start with a conversation.

For an informal chat about becoming a Trustee, or if you’d like to come along to a Board meeting please get in touch - we’d be happy to hear from you.
