Finalists

Frank Cook

Frank has been attending Co-op wellbeing walks at Hartsholme and Boultham Park for some time. Living alone, he has experienced periods of social isolation, but his regular attendance has helped him stay active, build routine and connect with others in a supportive setting.

By taking part consistently, Frank has improved his mental wellbeing and developed positive social connections. His confidence has grown, and he has become a familiar member of the walking group. These sessions have provided regular opportunities for conversation, activity and support.

Through the walks, Frank learned about the seated chair-based exercise sessions delivered by Lincoln City Foundation and began attending them as part of his wider wellbeing routine. His commitment has contributed to clear progress in his physical health: he now uses his walking stick much less, and at times not at all, showing improvements in strength, mobility and overall fitness.

Jayne Faulkner

Jayne began attending Fighting Fit Mablethorpe after completing treatment for breast cancer, following a difficult period that also included the loss of her mum and her dog. She initially took part in the gentle seated exercise class, which helped her rebuild strength and confidence while connecting with others in the group. She then progressed to a gym-based session introduced by instructor Laura, with additional support from Jade, where she learned how to use the EGYM equipment.

Jayne went on to apply for the One You Lincolnshire 12-week supported gym membership, giving her access to Station Leisure and Learning Centre. She used the opportunity consistently, walking to and from the venue, using the gym regularly and gradually improving her fitness and stamina. More recently, she has tried different exercise classes and new equipment, becoming a familiar presence at the gym. Jayne now encourages others to take part and shows how regular activity, support and commitment can lead to positive change.

Laura Nelson

Laura joined Station Leisure and Learning Centre at 39 as a casual cleaner, having previously worked only in cleaning roles. Naturally shy and lacking confidence, she could have stayed behind the scenes, but her determination to grow has transformed her career. Laura moved into reception, overcame her nerves around customer interaction and became a valued, welcoming member of the team. She has since gained qualifications in Level 2 Gym Instruction, Seated Exercise, Spin, Clubbercise and Level 1 Swimming Teaching.

Her personal development is just as impressive. Despite working in a leisure centre, Laura could not swim, but after a year of one-to-one lessons and committed practice, she can now swim successfully and is working towards her National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. She has also taken on a café assistant role, broadening her skills further. Alongside this, Laura has improved her wellbeing, losing two stone and becoming more active.

The winners for all award categories will be announced at our Award Ceremony on 12 November. View all our 2026 award finalists here.
