About us

Active Lincolnshire is committed to providing opportunities for everyone in Lincolnshire to be active every day. We work with partners to address inequalities and inactivity, responding to the needs of people and places.

What we do

As advocates for the positive power that physical activity has on everyone’s lives, we work in partnership to improve understanding, influence change, and tackle the challenge of inactivity.

People and places

More belonging.
More opportunities.
More community cohesion.

At Active Lincolnshire, we aim to create happier, healthier, stronger communities.

Feeling safe and a sense of belonging are important factors in community cohesion – and we believe access to physical activity is an essential part of that.

Here are some of the ways we support the people and places of Lincolnshire:

  • Tackling Inequalities

    Tackling inequalities

Active Lincolnshire works to ensure the provision of physical activity opportunities that are inclusive and easily accessible – regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability, location or economic status. Using data and insight, we focus our efforts on the groups in Lincolnshire most in need of support.

As part of our commitment to tackling inequalities in sport, we coordinate the School Games programme in Lincolnshire – ensuring every young person has the opportunity to take part in an activity that’s right for them. Responding to local data, our 2021 programme includes opportunities for girls to participate in football.

We also run the Wheelchair Sports Programme, which has had over 10 years of success. The programme gives both disabled and able-bodied people the chance to participate in wheelchair basketball, ensuring a level playing field.

Throughout Covid, we have delivered the national Sport England Tackling Inequalities Fund programme locally, supporting more people to be more active throughout the pandemic. You can find out more about the Tackling Inequalities Fund here.

  • Healthy place shaping

    Healthy place shaping

Healthy place shaping is a collaborative approach to create sustainable, well-designed communities where healthy behaviours are the norm. At Active Lincolnshire, we work with our partners to support healthy place shaping by creating and supporting active environments and green recovery, encouraging the development of and engagement with active travel initiatives, and influencing active design principles.

  • Green and blue spaces

    Green and blue spaces

Lincolnshire is a rich patchwork of coastline, beaches, parks, green spaces and the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds, giving us ample space to move, walk, cycle and enjoy the outdoors.

However, with much of the county only accessible by car, not everyone has easy access to Lincolnshire’s numerous outdoor spaces. Factors such as poor signage and a lack of information can also act as a barrier to people visiting and using these spaces.

To ensure the wider population can enjoy these natural assets, Active Lincolnshire supports partners to consider how these spaces can be more accessible, providing rich experiences and opportunities for people across the county.
